Once you build a great app, you want everyone to know about it. However, when you promote your app, you should avoid using services that advertise or guarantee top placement in App Store charts. Even if you are not personally engaged in manipulating App Store chart rankings or user reviews, employing services that do so on your behalf may result in the loss of your Apple Developer Program membership.
Back in 2010, Tristan Schaap – a student who had spent a 12 week internship with Apple – wrote a thesis which detailed his time spent with Apple’s Platform Technologies Group. Though the thesis was originally embargoed due to its sensitive subject-matter, it is now available to view : in it, Schaap details Apple’s experimentation regarding the company’s OS X operating system, and its ARM processors – suggesting that at the time, Apple might have been considering launching an iPad powered by Mac OS X. The news was originally published by iMore , who points to this section of the paper: The goal of this project is to get Darwin into a workable state on the MV88F6281 processor so that other teams can continue their work on this platform.

The successor to the Nokia N8 could be the Finns' last Symbian handset according to the latest rumours. The Register reports that Nokia has cancelled the development of all but one Symbian handset, said to be a high-end N8-alike smartphone. We reported last month that Nokia seemed likely to ditch Symbian earlier than expected as a result of the company's decision to place most of its eggs in the Windows Phone basket last year. Symbolic When CEO Stephen Elop announced that Nokia was backing Windows Phone in 2011, there was quite a lot of confusion over what would happen to the ailing OS – first Nokia said it would simply keep supporting Symbian, then it said Symbian was here to stay and would power its 'next million' phones and then it said no more Symbian phones would be coming to the US … Like we said, confusing

The Samsung Galaxy S3 could be arriving in less than three months, and push the boundaries of phone sleekness again. According to South Korean title Electronic Times News , the new phone will reportedly come in a package that's just 7mm thin, making it one of the thinnest on the market. However, it wouldn't be THE thinnest, thanks to the Huawei Ascend P1 S , which launched to great (ish) fanfare at CES this year popping up at 6.68mm thick.

After launching a mobile app search iOS application back in March , Yahoo! has recently unveiled a Web-based version of its Yahoo! App Search service , which app-fans can access from a browser on their computer or mobile device. You can search for iOS and Android applications using the Web-based Yahoo! App Search, and results can be filtered by both price and category; the service also displays application descriptions and screenshots, along with user reviews. Furthermore, Yahoo!’s service allows users to view app trends, too, which is an interesting feature.

Google has announced it is using a new service called "Bouncer" to keep malware-harbouring apps out of the Android Market. The service automatically scans new apps, existing apps and even developer accounts to root out malware, spyware and trojans. It even looks for indicators that "an application might be misbehaving", in a manner not unlike TV's Super Nanny, we imagine. 2011 saw over 11 billion apps downloaded from Android Market while at the same time there was a 40 percent decrease in "potentially-malicious" downloads

Apple has been forced to pull most of its iPad and iPhone ranges from its website in Germany as the result of an injunction enforced by Motorola. It's all down to one of Motorola's patents covering wireless communications, which Apple is using but has not licensed from the phone company. The patent in question is over a "method for performing a countdown function during a mobile-originated transfer for a packet radio system". That old chestnut This means that the Apple iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 have all been pulled from Apple's German website, as well as the iPad and iPad 2; the iPhone 4S is unaffected by the ban, however
