If you visited AppAdvice today, you probably noticed our “blackout.” And, unless you’ve been living under a rock of late, you’re probably aware exactly what and why we are protesting. For those somehow still in the dark, the American congressional SOPA and PIPA bills threaten to destroy the internet as we know it , supplanting the free flow of information with a far-reaching, blanketed, mindless censorship the likes of which we’ve only seen in the most dystopian of popular fiction. And, unfortunately, jailbreakers might be more immediately affected than anyone (if that’s even possible).
AT&T has revealed its new, costlier data plans for smartphone customers, which aim to give users a little more wiggle room for their monthly tariff. The carrier says that increased mobile broadband usage has led it to rethink its data plan offerings, which give users slightly more value for money, while still raising prices. The new plans come into effect for new customers on Sunday, while existing customers can transfer over if they wish. Those on older and indeed better plans will be able to stick to their guns.
HMV has announced a new app for iOS which allows users to take a photo of a CD cover, listen to the content of that CD and then buy it online. Nope, we don’t really get why you would want to do this either but you now have the option. HMV has been struggling to find its footing on the high street for some time now, with many an online retailer snapping up its customers with tax-free discounts on physical media
Sheldon Quotes has been on my phone for the better part of a month now. I was debating writing an article about it because it’s based on a TV show. I wasn’t sure how many other people would be familiar with the show, but there seems to be enough of a fan base to merit a mention. Sheldon quotes comes from the hit series “The Big Bang Theory.” The show features four scientists who are socially awkward and a waitress who is as close to a real world connection as they get.
