The iPad 3G had its day in the sun, but now it’s time to focus on what iPhone and iPod touch gamers really want, and that’s free titles. Today we have three games developed for the iPhone and iPod touch that will be available for free for a limited time.
Chop Chop Runner ($.99 -> Free): A running game similar to Canabalt where you control the adorable ninja Iro-san as he attempts to rescue the beautiful princess from the clutches of evil. The idea of the game is to run as far as possible without getting killed by the vast amount of enemies or falling down a hole. Iro-san runs by himself, so all you are required to do is jump at the right time by tapping on the screen. A quick tap will make your character jump a short distance, while tapping and holding will make him fly through the air. Enemies can be disposed off with another tap.
The game also features OpenFeint integration to supply achievements and global leaderboards.
Chop Chop Runner is available for free today only (5/1).
Stickbound ($.99 -> Free): Another endless distance game that requires you to propel your character forward with a touch-screen controlled stick. To move forward, simply touch and drag your finger from your character to a point on the ground. The angle and the distance you drag your finger will determine the the speed and trajectory of your jump. The game features two modes of play: normal and timed. In normal mode you are given three lives to go as far as you can, and more lives can be obtained by collecting a specific number of stars. In timed mode you are given 30 seconds to go as far as you can, and each time you reach a checkpoint you are given a few more precious seconds.
The game features unlockable characters, power-ups, and OpenFeint integration.
Stickbound is available for free today only (5/1).
Captain Ludwig ($1.99 -> Free): Captain Ludwig requires you to jump from planet to planet while dodging obstacles and catching bonuses to obtain the highest score. Planets spin freely, and you must tap at the appropriate time to make your character jump through space and land on the next planet. You must touch all planets in a level to move on to the next.
The game features 21 levels, simple yet stylish graphics, and OpenFeint integration.
Captain Ludwig will be available for free through the weekend.
